Mother Mary Mathias, SHCJ (Julia Hare) Rosemont, PAMother M. Mathias, a Sister of the Holy Child Jesus (SHCJ) for 79 years, died at Holy Child Center in Rosemont, PA on Friday, March 22. She was 100. Born in Suffern, N.Y., Sister was the youngest of four children and graduated from Holy Child High School, Suffern in 1929 and entered the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in 1931. She began her long teaching career in Waukegan, IL where she taught at St. Anastasia School from 1934-1937. Sister returned to Waukegan as Assistant Principal and to teach English and Latin at Holy Child High School from 1949-1959. During her ten years at Holy Child she influenced many students as an excellent teacher and by her gentle loving spirit. Sister taught in several elementary and secondary schools throughout the country in CA, NJ, NY and PA. In 2006 at 93 she moved to Holy Child Center in Rosemont. Her funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 26 at Holy Child Center and five family members joined the Sisters of the Holy Child to celebrate her long dedicated life.
