Kocal, Marilyn Mae (Hoffman) 80, of Lanark, Illinois, passed peacefully into the Hands of God on Saturday, January 12, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her family. Marilyn was born on February 6, 1932 in Racine, Wisconsin to Norman Vernon and Florence (Criplean) Hoffman. She graduated from Waukegan (IL) High School in 1949. She met her future husband, Richard Anthony Kocal, at the wedding of her best friend, Jeanne Curto, to Rich's cousin, Ted Kocal. They were married on December 30, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waukegan, and were inseparable for the next 62 years. They lived in North Chicago, IL for 40 years, and were dedicated members of Holy Rosary Church. They moved to Lanark in 1998. Marilyn was a dedicated wife and mother, an original stay-at-home Mom. She loved her flower gardens, and always loved to sing. She became relatively well-known for her rendition of Sinatra's "My Way" at local karaoke events. She liked to say, "I did it God's Way." Marilyn is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, Richard; her four children, Thomas (Lynn) of Lanark, Rick (Barb) of Antioch, IL, Karen (Jeff) Regner of Cedar Grove, WI, and Connie (Mike) Feltner of Antioch, IL; grandchildren, Jenny, Michael, Sarah, Michelle, Joe, Nikole, Jarvelle, Jesse, Kimberly, Jacob, and Thomas; great-grandchildren, Angel, Alexander, Andrew, Eleanor, Liam, Malia, Emma, Benjamin and Jayden; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws whom she loved dearly. She was also the "surrogate mom" to many over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Norman Jr.; and her dear sister-in-law, Donna. Near the end, when asked if she would like a priest present, she replied, "No need, I was Blessed by the Pope!" A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 557 Lake St., Antioch, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Anastasia's Restaurant, 950 Hillside Ave. (across from the church) in Antioch.
