Cesar, Janet M. 58, of Waukegan, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 22, 2012, after fighting breast cancer with courage, grace and dignity. Jan grew up in Chicago and attended St. Priscilla School and Notre Dame HS for Girls. She received a BS degree in International Business and language at St. Norbert College, where she met her husband, Bob. Jan and Bob had two children, Jessica and Daniel, and created a home filled with family, friends, love, and laughter. Jan began her career as a business woman before finding her real passion, teaching children, while volunteering for Jr. Achievement. She went on to earn a Master's Degree in Teaching from National Lewis University and was a beloved teacher at Greenwood Elementary School for 18 years. Jan was an inspiration and mentor to both colleagues and students. She was active in the community as a CCD teacher, Girl Scout leader, school board member, and Eucharistic Minister at St. Anastasia Parish and volunteered her talents for many years in the Waukegan Room at Carmel Catholic HS Street Scenes. Among her many interests, Jan loved the outdoors. She spent the last few summers at her cabin in Upper Michigan, kayaking, fishing and making many new friends, which was her greatest talent. Jan touched the lives of everyone she met. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Bob; her two children, Jessica and Daniel; her sisters, Kathryn Calabrese (Anthony) and Mary Nyland; her brothers, John Gastaldello and Ray Gastaldello; and numerous and much-loved aunts, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 4PM until 9PM at Peterson and Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan. Funeral Service will be Thursday, September 27, 2012 10AM at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 624 Douglas Ave. Waukegan, IL.
