Donald Walden Obituary
Walden, Donald L. (Joe) passed away at home in Wadsworth, Illinois on February 20, 2011. He was born on October 26, 1926 in Waukegan, Illinois to Don and Leona (Petersen) Walden. He graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1944. Don served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He retired from Commonwealth Edison's Zion Nuclear Power Plant as a fuel handler foreman in 1981 after 35 years. Don was a member of Millburn Masonic Lodge 127. He was a school board member for Wadsworth School and served on the church council at St Paul's Church in Waukegan. Don and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the world during his retirement. He was a true family man always sharing a joke and words of wisdom with his grandkids teaching them right from wrong, and instilling the value of family traditions. Don was a genuine handyman. He built his house, enjoyed woodworking, and could fix anything. His passion for airplanes, real and toy, created many lessons with his grandchildren. Don was a licensed pilot. He spent hours listening to his radio especially when the Cubs were playing. Surviving Don are his wife of 66 years, Lois (Gyzen), daughters, Nikki (Ron) Hagen and Sue (Brian) Niemi, daughter-in-law, Kay Walden, two granddaughters, four grandsons and two great granddaughters, and his brother Richard (Butch) (Pam Mason). Two sons, John and D. Kent, and one grandson, Brad, preceded him in death. There will be a memorial service at Millburn Church, Millburn, IL (Rt. 45 and Grass Lake Rd) on Saturday, March 5th, at 3 PM with interment at Millburn Cemetery. Donations may be made to Warren Newport Public Library, 224 N O'Plaine Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031, or the Newport Township Fire and Rescue, Wadsworth, IL.
