Joseph Richard Nowakowski Obituary
Nowakowski, Joseph Richard Age 80, of Bristol, Wisconsin passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014, at home with his loving family beside him. Joe was born on January 1, 1934 in North Chicago to Lillian and Walter Nowakowski and later married Dee Dee Hacker on July 17, 1977 in Waukegan. Joe attended Waukegan Township High School and later joined the U.S. Marines having served in the Korean War. He retired from the shipping and receiving department at Coral Chemical in 1996 after 27 years of employment and at one time, had also worked for Great Lakes Canteen, the U.S. Wire Mill, and Skokie Valley Construction. He attended the Church of Saint Patrick in Wadsworth and was a long standing member in the Necedah American Legion Post 277. When you met Joe, you were an instant friend. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan who loved eating and laughing, but above all, Joe cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. He was also a great enthusiast of antique stores, garage sales, and flea markets. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Dee Dee; children: Alan (Johnell) Nowakowski of Antioch, Rick Bosner of Alpena, MI, Kim Nowakowski of Phoenix, AZ, Cindy Bosner of Round Lake, and Desiree (Ken) Compeau of Ossineke, MI; seven grandchildren: Jonathon, Adam, Tony, Gary, Greg, Julie, and Marjorie; six great-grandchildren; brother, Art (Karen) Nowakowski of New Lisben, WI; sisters, Virginia Celmer of Streamwood, IL, and Lillian "Babe" Jeffery of Princeton, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Tony; sister, Delores Groesbeck; brothers, Ray and Danny; parents, Lillian and Walter Nowakowski; and many other loving family members. Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, February 26, at 9:30am in the OLD church at the Church of Saint Patrick, 15000 Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth with Father Fred Pesek officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, February 25, from 5:00-8:00pm at the Salata Gurnee Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee and again on Wednesday from 9:00am until the time of mass. Interment will follow with military honors at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville.
