Mills Jr., Maurice More affectionately known as "Big Moe" to friends and "Uncle Moe" to family, departed his earthly life to go home for eternal rest Friday, June 29, 2012. He was the last of three children and only son born to Alma Sparks Mills and Maurice Mills Sr. on September 11, 1951. Maurice Jr. graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 1969, where he was very active in Student Government, excelled in football and over-achieved in academics. His hard work and dedication won him a four year Texaco academic and athletic scholarship to Michigan State University. Maurice had a strong passion for literature. His love for books and reading led him to work for Callahan's Publishing Co. for over 10 years. In the late 1990's he decided to pursue another career path in Culinary Arts as a Chef. He attended and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts school in Chicago. Maurice Jr. leaves many loved ones to celebrate his life and cherish his memory; A sister, Lynda Marie (Joseph) Powe; Two nieces, Erica L. (Richard) Ray and Adnyl V. (Seidu) Dauda; A nephew James W. (Jamila) Edwards; Four great nieces, Enitra L., Briana V., Shanece T., and Alasehir H.; Two great great nephews Brendon Maurice and Cayden Maurice. Maurice Jr. was preceeded in death by his loving parents Alma Sparks Mills and Maurice Mills Sr. and a sister Margaret Mills. A Celebration of His Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 2690 Argonne Drive, North Chicago, IL. Pastor Henry Woods, Sr., Officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M.
