Mary Sumerset Obituary
Sumerset, Mary S. 94 of Waukegan, IL departed this earthly life on May 19, 2013. She was born April 1, 1919 in Marshall County, Mississippi to Autry and Ethel Ann (Park) Stiger. Mary accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized in 1936 at the Concord Missionary Baptist Church. She moved to Waukegan, IL in 1951. She united with the Gideon Missionary Baptist Church in 1952 where she remained a faithful member for over 62 years. She served on the Usher board for over 40 years. Mary also served as a Deaconess, member of the church school, Mission and the Mother's board. She was also a loyal member of the Eastern Star. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 loving daughters, Hilary Sumerset of Waukegan, Eunice (Willie) Smith of Marion, AL and Elvira Brandon of Detroit, MI; 1 son, Johnny Sumerset of Chicago, IL; 1 sister, Armelyer Euell of Memphis, TN; 2 sons-in-law, James Vaughn of Florence, AL and Mack Hill of Zion, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many friends including 2 special friends, Mattie Blackburn and Eugene Christmas, Sr. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Autry and Ethel Stiger; her husband, John "Pappy" Sumerset; 2 sons, Andrew (AK) Franklin and Bruce Sumerset; 4 daughters, Lenora Hill, Mattie Vaughn, Verdall Pride, Eula Mae Blanton; also 2 sisters and 4 brothers. A Celebration of Her Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11:00A.M. at Gideon Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 Ridgeland Avenue, Waukegan, IL, Pastor Wade A. Stevenson, Officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park Cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at 10:00A.M.
