Sorenson, Edward "Eddie" Of Sorenson's Bait Shop on Route 173, Antioch, 96 years old, passed away Monday, September 26, 2011. He was in the care of his niece, Donna Modine in Tucker, GA. He was cared for by her for six months before his passing. He was born November 6, 1914, the youngest of three children of Einar and Eva Sorenson. He had lived a full and active life, operating his bait shop until six months ago when he relocated to Georgia. Ed opened his first bait shop at Routes 173 and 59 in the site now occupied by Jewel. After staying there for nearly 30 years, he moved to the last location for another 30 years. The Sorenson family lived in Chicago and used to come out to the Chain O' Lakes for the summers. His father Einar bought a place in Channel Lake and turned it into a tavern and restaurant that rented boats. He met his wife Vera when she and her family came on summer vacation to Sorenson's Resort. They were married in one week's time and it lasted for 30 years. They had two daughters, Barbara and Mary Joyce. Ed eventually owned and operated three taverns, all with the Sorenson name, before entering the bait shop business. He was a WWII veteran and became Master Sergeant in the Army Calvary. Eddie was one of the greatest generation and beloved by everyone he knew. He was an honest, hardworking, true American. Ed will be truly missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Hamblin of San Marcos, CA; seven grandchildren, Bill Hamblin, Kathy Shetrone, Robert Hamblin, Jack Hamblin, LoriLynn Hickson, Laura Alvero and Lucy Layton; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Aside from his niece, Donna Modine, he was also survived by a nephew, Raymond Sorenson of AZ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Vera in 1995, his daughter Mary Joyce in 2005 and his second wife, Joanne in 2007. A memorial graveside service will be held at 12:30PM, Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Hillside Cemetery, Antioch. A memorial visitation will be held from 10AM-12Noon Wednesday at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch. INFO 847-395-4000.
