Ahlstrom, Charles C. 84, of Gold Canyon, AZ departed to the happy hunting grounds Thursday, September 12, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Frances Pink Ahlstrom, daughter Jill Ahlstrom, sisters Charleen Cooper, Doris Henley and Carol Cretan. Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years Eleanore, daughter Judy (Frank La Barbera) Ahlstrom, son Eric (Tammy) Ahlstrom, 4 grandchildren: Donya (Dave) Krizman, Kyle and Casey Ahlstrom and Lonna Ahlstrom; one great-granchild Miya; brothers James (Nancy) Ahlstrom, and Ed (Judith) Ahlstrom, sister Sharon (Bruce) Laughlin. Charles served in the United States Army in Korea. He received the Bronze Star with the V for Valor and the Purple Heart with two clusters. Charles retired from the Waukegan Fire Department after 20 years of service. He enjoyed nature, trapping, hunting, carving duck decoys, and fishing. A military memorial service will be held October 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at Yorkhouse United Methodist Church, 37768 N. Green Bay Rd., Beach Park, IL. Refreshments to follow immediately at Bonnie Brook Golf Course, 2800 N. Lewis Ave., Waukegan, IL. In lieu of flowers, Charles would be honored with a donation in his memory to: Northeast Retired Firefighters Assoc., C/O James McGrain, 2913 Brookside Ave., Waukegan, IL 60085.
