McGee, Sherman T. 74, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the home of his eldest daughter in Centerville, Ohio, He was born on December 7, 1938 in Waukegan and attended Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Illinois and graduated from North Chicago High School in 1958. After high school he joined the United States Air Force and served his country with honor and distinction. Later, he found success in the field of carpentry, assisting in the building of such Chicago landmarks as the Sears Tower, Harold Washington Library and the Intercontinental Hotel. Sherman is survived by his spouse, Mildred McGee of Chicago; eight children, Vernita Gail Jones (Wendell) of Centerville, OH, Traci Janine Benjamin Hay (Creason) of Chicago, Shermin Donnell McGee (Denise) of Hammond, IN, Kevin Alonzo McGee of Hammond, IN, Kelly Nicole Benjamin of Lisle, IL, Tasha Daneen Benjamin of Chicago, Michelle McGee Kerr (Nicholas) of Toluca Lake, CA and Dana Jamaal Benjamin of Chicago. Remembering him with unconditional love are his brothers and sisters, Clyde McGee (Linda) of University Park, IL, James Kelly McGee (Ida) of Zion, Leonard McGee of Sylmar, CA, Arlethia Little of Zion, Betty J. McGee of Chicago, Clorydine McGee Hollister (Clyde) of Harvey, IL, Daisy M. Smith of Burnsville, MN, Lucille McGee Hatch of Chicago and Savannah Shelton (Ben) of West Point, MS. Preceding him in death were his parents, Felix and Savannah McGee; two brothers and a sister, Felix McGee, Jr., Clarence McGee and Jeanette McGee. Sherman will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Join us in paying our respects at Jesus Name Apostolic Church 208 Lake St., Waukegan at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to time of service at the church.
