Ruthella Gussarson Obituary
Gussarson, Ruthella Mae 90 years old of Antioch, IL passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at her home with her family at her side. She was born May 8, 1923 in Beloit, WI the daughter of the late Viron Van Keister and Louise (Wardlow) Keister. Ruthella proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp Women's reserve from September 28, 1943December 13, 1945, and on October 8, 1949, she married Ralph Gussarson, at the United Methodist Church, Antioch. He preceded her in death March 11, 2014. Ruthella was a member of the College of Regents of the Women of the Moose Lodge #735 of Antioch, Chaplain for the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #4551, Antioch, the Antioch Township Republican Club, the Antioch Beautification committee, and life member of the American Legion Post #771, Gurnee, IL. Ruthella loved to play golf and was an AVID Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cub fan. She retired from Intermatic Inc. in Spring Grove, IL after 17 years of service. Survivors include her children, Bruce (Angela) of Morton Grove, IL, Joan (Troy) Shea of Maricopa, AZ, Daryl "Duffy" (Arlene) of Antioch, Luann (Alfred) Ultes of Antioch, and Alan (Caryn) of Antioch; grandchildren, Tricia Fandre, Lisa Chavez, Adam Chavez, Kristy Gussarson, Jennifer Gussarson, Jason Ultes, Jeffrey Ultes, Daryl Renee Gussarson, and Michael Gussarson; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Victor (Joyce) Keister of Beloit, WI and sister, Vivian Gatrel of Clinton, WI; several nieces and nephews; and many friends who called her "Mom". In addition to her parents and husband, Ruthella was preceded in death by siblings, Kenneth Keister, and Doris Scott. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) with VFW Auxiliary and WOTM services at 7 p.m. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the funeral home.
