Simmons, Loren Albert (December 8, 1924 September 30, 2013) Loren Simmons died peacefully at his home in Monterey, CA on September 30, 2013. He was 88. Loren was born and raised in Waukegan, IL, a 1942 graduate of Waukegan High School, and attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. In December 1942 he joined the Marine Corps, starting at Notre Dame University to study engineering and then on to officers training before assuming active duty. Loren left the Corps in 1946, only to be recalled to the reserves in 1948 and active duty in 1949, retiring from the Marines in 1952. Loren's career in sales and management in the wire mesh conveyor belt industry started at Cyclone Fence and continued at Alloy Wire Belt and Ashworth Brothers. While at Ashworth Brothers, Loren was promoted and transferred to Salinas, CA in June 1979. He finished his career in Modesto, CA from 1988 to 1992, and relocated back to the Salinas/Monterey area in 1995 to be closer to family, first to Markham Ranch and then to The Park Lane retirement community in 2004. Loren was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine "Gerrie" Simmons, in 2004 and is survived by his sister, Virginia Bilharz of Lindenhurst, IL; his three children, Cory (Freda) Simmons of Concord, CA, Kelly (Jay Bolling) Simmons of Bryn Mawr, PA, and Kris (Scott) McCulloch of Cary, NC; and his five grandchildren, Laura and Peter Simmons of Merced, CA, and Sydney, Spencer, and Cameron Bolling of Bryn Mawr, PA.
