Dorothy A. (Staley) Lafferty Obituary
Lafferty, Dorothy Anne (nee Staley) age 84, of Duluth, formerly of Waukegan, IL, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Saturday, March 2, 2013, in her home at Diamond Willow. She was born December 29, 1928 in Greeneville, OH to Hugh and Catherine Staley. Anne was a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, OH receiving a Bachelor Degree in Nursing. She went on to receive her Masters Degree in Education from Northwestern University in Illinois and subsequently went on to teach for 35 years at Clearview Elementary in Waukegan, IL. While in college, Anne met J. P. Lafferty to whom she was married for 61 years. Ann was an avid bridge player, joining bridge clubs in any community she resided. She was an accomplished piano player, for years having a creative hand in school performances and productions that involved her musical background and skills. After her retirement, Anne volunteered her time to mentor students. She and Jack enjoyed spending time on their boat and were members of the Waukegan Yacht Club for many years. Anne's beloved husband, Jack, preceded her in death by three months. She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth (Michael) Kaliner of West Chester, PA, Barbara (Patrick) Ferrari of Glen Carbon, IL and John P. "Jack" (Laura) Lafferty of Duluth, MN; seven grandchildren, Kate (Justin) Witman, Rachel Kaliner, Ben Kaliner, Joe Kaliner, John P. Lafferty, IV, Francesca Ferrari and Faye Lafferty; her sister, Jean Louise (Thomas) Hanes; and two brothers, David (Dixie Jo) Staley and Tom (Jane) Staley. Anne's family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff of Diamond Willow, who treated "their Diva" with unfailing patience, kindness and respect. Words cannot express our gratitude. A private family memorial service will be held.
