Armstead, David Malcolm "Butch" David Malcolm (Butch) Armstead was born August 14, 1943 in Waukegan, IL to the union of Woodson and Earnie (Harris) Armstead. He was the fourth of five children. David's transition was on Monday, February 25, 2013, 3:00 PM at home in Bazemore, AL. David's first encounter with the Lord was in 1953 at Trinity African Methodist Church in Waukegan, IL where he joined under Bishop Rev. Robert Thomas Jr. and later was baptized into the Body of Christ in the late 1970's. March 28, 1969 David and Linda McCollum were united in holy matrimony and parented two children: David Shelley Armstead and Linda Renee Armstead January. David graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 1961 where he played football and basketball. He continued his education and graduated from Yankton College, Yankton, South Dakota and also played basketball. He then served his country in the U.S. Army 1966-1971 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. After college he was employed by Johnson & Johnson, Chicago, IL in the HR Department and later was employed by Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee, WI as a manager. He then located to Phoenix, AZ in the late 1980's and worked in Personnel Administration. David served on the Arizona House of Representatives District 23 from 1992 to 1998 and put his energy into helping the helpless. His exact words for one of his dreams was: "I want to be a State Representative just like John Matijevich". David was known for always lending a hand whether friend, family or stranger. David is survived by his wife, Linda, of 43 years; son, David (Denne') Armstead of Columbus, GA; daughter, Linda (Marques) January of Birmingham, AL; precious grandson, Tyler; and granddaughter, Taylor January; one brother, Robert (Debra) Armstead, West Bloomfield, MI; two sisters, Betty (Ernest) Fisher, North Chicago, IL and Marcia Blassingame, Flint, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodson (1995), Earnie (1994) and oldest brother, Walter Odell Armstead (1996). David was eulogized on March 4, 2013 at the Bowen Funeral Home, Winfield, AL.
