Leo A. Bednar(1927 - 2013)

Bednar, Leo A. 85 years old, of Antioch, IL passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 at his home. He was born October 12, 1927 in Chicago, IL the son of the late John and Lucille (Zielinski) Bednarkewicz, living in Brookfield, IL and Hinsdale, IL, before settling in Antioch in 1967. Leo proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Peter Church, Antioch, the Knights of Columbus Council #3800, Antioch VFW Post #4551, former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Antioch, IL and Downers Grove, IL, and had served as an Assistant Scout Master in Hinsdale, IL for many years. Leo enjoyed: fishing, woodworking, boating, building models, hunting, gardening and lawn work, traveling to visit friends and family, and giving help to anyone who needed anything. Before his retirement in 1983, Leo had started his career as a punch press operator at BorgWarner in Bellwood, IL, later becoming a master carpenter and member of the Carpenters Union of Chicago. On June 18, 1949 he married Irene Jablonski in Todds Mill, IL. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Irene; five children, Alan (Julie) of Antioch, IL, Glen (Lori) of Antioch, IL, Paul of Genoa City, WI, Brian (Donna) of Antioch, IL and Donna Jordan of Antioch, IL; 10 grandchildren, William (Lisa), Valerie, Andy, Alice, Phillip, Heather, April, Nicole, Grace, and Colton; two great-grandsons, Liam and Charlie; sister, Virginia (the late Edward) Palus of Fullerton, CA; sister-in-law, Jordis Bednar of Brookfield, IL; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sylvester (Marian) and Jerome. Funeral Services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Friday April 12, 2013 at St. Peter Church, 557 Lake St. Antioch, IL 60002. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Visitation will be from 4PM until 8PM Thursday at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL 60002.
