Francis J. Geraghty

Geraghty, Francis Joseph Age 79, of Beach Park, Illinois died unexpectedly at home on May 2, 2013. He was born on April 18, 1934 in Lake Forest, lL. He was baptized Catholic at St. Mary's Church in Lake Forest, lL. He attended Lake Forest High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He married his high school sweetheart, Emma (Roberts), who tragically died in a car accident in 1956. In high school, he began working as a service station attendant, before enlisting in the military. He then purchased a Bulko station on Grand Ave., in Waukegan and another in Wheeling, IL. Eventually he changed direction and became the proprietor of what became known as Mickey's Michigan Inn in Waukegan. In his retirement, and because of his love for people, he worked part time for Bonnie Brook Golf Course. At the 'Brook' he made many friends and always looked forward to winter being over, so that he could return to his very social life there and the people and friends he enjoyed being with. Being that he was born and raised on Lake Michigan, he spent his youth swimming and skating and had such a love for the water that he became an avid boatman for many years, being a member of the Kenosha Yacht Club and Trident Marina. Survivors include his wife, Ann Marie (Marko) of Waukegan; his daughter, Deborah Ann Savage (Shawn) of Bristol, WI; his son, Francis Joseph Geraghty III (Susan) of Gurnee, IL; grandchildren, Emily Jean Geraghty of Idaho, Rowdy John (Natalie) Geraghty of CA, Meghan (Dan) Carlson of Antioch, IL, Christopher (Katrin) Savage of Antioch, IL, Andrew Savage (fiancee Kelsey Mitchell of Spring Grove, IL) of Bristol, WI and Justin and Alison Calhoun of Gurnee, IL. He had five great-grandchildren, Emma, Nicholas and Alexander Carlson and Matthew and Benjamin Savage. Also surviving are his sister, Sue Anne Tewes of AZ; his brother, William P. (Constance) Geraghty of Gurnee, IL; as well as, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis P. and Catherine Geraghty; his wife, Emma Jean (Roberts); his dear son and daughter, William Raymond Geraghty and Diana Sue Geraghty; a granddaughter, Sissy Alice Geraghty; and his much missed sister, Kay Glynn. We will be remembering him down at the 'Brook' in a special way, as well as a private family get together. Arrangements have been made by Mr. Gene Morani of the Salata Gurnee Funeral Home in Gurnee, IL.
