Eddie Richter

Richter, Eddie (George) Died Monday March 31st, 2014 at the age of 84. Eddie graduated from the University of Illinois, then served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War. Most people recognize Eddie as the friendly State Farm insurance agent who advertised with his picture in the TV Guide for forty years until his retirement in 1995. His success in insurance came slowly, but lasted, because he never, "sold" anything. Everyone who walked into his office was his friend. He was the nice guy who people trusted because he never let them down. Eddie had been a state champion handball player who loved his Saturdays at the YMCA playing the fiercely fun, highly competitive matches with his friends and then his sons as they became old enough to learn his lessons of the game; most importantly, sportsmanship and the camaraderie of good friends. Eddie also loved, golf, both for the competitive challenge and the time it provided with his peers. Over the years, he was proud of the six holes-in-one he had carded. Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Doris (Nibbe) Richter; sons, Jeffrey Richter, Randall (Susan) Richter and Scott (Katy) Richter; daughter, Rhonda (Rod) Wodd; ten grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. He also leaves the church family of his First Christian Church, where he was an elder and board member, and the Waukegan Rotary Club, where he was proud to belong and have been a past president. He'll miss his State Farm family, his handball buddies, golfing pals, and all the storytellers who befriended him in his avocation and joy since retirement. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6th at the Memorial Chapel of Waukegan, 1521 Washington Street, Waukegan, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with memorial service to follow at 12:30. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Waukegan Rotary Club, P.O. Box 8728, Waukegan, IL 60079.
