Dorothy E. Langbein

Langbein, Dorothy Eleanor 99 years old, of Lake Villa, IL, passed away at Victory Lakes Assisted Living, Lindenhurst, IL on Friday, July 12, 2013. Dorothy was born March 13, 1914 the daughter of the late Bert and Lillian (Tiede) Hooper in Lake Villa, IL above the drugstore on Cedar Avenue that her parents owned and operated. Dorothy went on to live her entire life in Lake Villa. She was a graduate of Antioch Community High School, Class of 1932. On May 17, 1941 she married Edward Langbein and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1977. She was a member of the Lake Villa VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Lake Villa Methodist Church, the Lake Villa Historical Society, and was president of her local AARP Chapter for several years. During her life she was instrumental in starting the Lake Villa Library and was an election judge for many years. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and was an avid sports fan, especially the Chicago Cubs, her "Cubbies". Survivors include her daughter, Sharon (Jim) Lienhardt; three grandchildren, Christopher (Denise) Lienhardt, Jason (Kim) Lienhardt and Jennifer Varney; her seven great-grandchildren, Matt, Nicholas, Joshua, J.C., Christie, Matthew and Daniel. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles, and sister, Lorraine Ellis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Lake Villa United Methodist Church, 110 McKinley Avenue, Lake Villa, IL 60046. Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Antioch immediately following. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main Street (Rte. 83), Antioch, IL 60002 and on Thursday from 10:30AM until time of service at the church.
