Bobby J. Harper

Harper, Bobby Joe On February 4, 2013 God called one of His servants to eternal rest. Bobby Joe Harper was born August 6, 1954 in Gurdon, AR to Tim and Dorothy Harper. As an infant the family moved to Buffalo, NY where he lived until a young adult. Bobby was saved and baptized at an early age. He united with the Gideon Missionary Baptist Church family on August 29, 1993. In 1972, Bobby attended the University of Miami where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology/Sociology in 1976. He played football for the Hurricanes and was ready for the pros when an injury sidelined his football career. Bobby enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1989. He remained there until 1992 obtaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. In 1993, he met the love of his life, Lucille Smith. On January 6, 1996 Bobby and Lucille were wed and continued their love for each other until his death. Bobby was employed at Bayside Terrace for over 20 years as a Substance Abuse Counselor. Bobby leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Lucille; sons, Bobby of Gurdon, AR, and Tourion (TJ); daughter, Samari and stepson, Timothy Smith all of Waukegan, IL. He also leaves his mother, Dorothy Gulley of Gurdon, AR; brother, Timothy Harper, III of Escondido, CA and sister, Delores Lanier of Buffalo, NY. Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Timothy Harper, Jr. A Homegoing Service will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Gideon Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 Ridgeland Avenue, Waukegan, IL. Pastor Dr. Wade A. Stevenson, Officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park Cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M.
