Lorraine T. Kraft

Obituary Condolences

Lorraine T. Kraft (nee Smatlock), 83, of Chicago, IL passed away suddenly, May 5, 2009, at Swedish Covenant Hospital. She was born August 11, 1945 in the same house she lived in her whole life. She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish and a graduate from Alvernia High School. In 1948, she married the love of her life, Robert, who preceded her in death August 6, 2006. Together they had five children and seven grandchildren. As a mother she was sweet and always there with a ready smile, pat on the back and sincere words of encouragement. Even if you got a 9 in bowling. As a grandmother, (Grams) she loved to sit for hours holding the babies; was anxious to hear about the grandkids' exciting moments during their growing years, and savored their phone calls in later years. She delighted in holiday and family gatherings and was the one to linger for one more cup of coffee while Dad would be coaxing her to the car. She was Past President of IHM Mother's Club and made great lunches. She learned to drive in her 50's. After all the kids had left the nest, she was very proud of her admitting clerk position at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Butternut Wisconsin was the north woods home that drew the family together in the summer around Mom and Dad. Needless to say we will miss her every day. She is survived by two sons, Robert (Rita) Kraft, Michael (Janet) Kraft; three daughters, Vicki Kraft, Linda (Tony) Johannes, Lori (Bill) Shores; seven grandchildren, Erin and Tim Kraft, Mary Beth, Thomas, Michael and Emily Kraft, and Joseph Shores; nephews George and David; cousins, Marie and Denny along with many friends. Visitation Friday, 3-9pm at Hollerbach Funeral Home, 4022-36 N. Elston Ave., Chicago. Funeral services Monday, May 11, at 10 am. Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Chicago; Interment St. Cecelia Cemetery in Butternut, WI, May 13. Memorials can be directed to Children's Tumor Foundation 95 Pine St 16th Floor, NY., NY 10005.
