Collen, Max F. Age 87, a resident of Naperville since 1976 and formerly of Glen Ellyn, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 14, 2014 at his home in Naperville. He was born April 15, 1927 in Mason City, Iowa to George and Grace Collen. After service in the U.S. Navy during WW II, Max graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and his career spanned 37 years at Commonwealth Edison, retiring in 1988. In his retirement he enjoyed skiing, volunteering at Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, and sharing his homegrown tomatoes with friends and neighbors. Max was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Naperville. He is survived by his children, Ron (Sue) Collen, Ken (Lena) Collen and Nancie (Fred) Spencer; his grandchildren, Kevin and Jack Spencer and Tracey Collen; a sister, Betty Plonien; and a brother, Don Collen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardys E. (nee Helland) Collen; and twelve siblings. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1313 N. Mill Street, Naperville, IL. Interment private. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014, from 4:00 8:00 p.m. at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home and Crematory, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.
