Phyllis J. Goerling Obituary
Goerling, Phyllis Jean Blythe Age 80, from Naperville died on September 1, 2012. Born November 2, 1931 on the south side of Chicago. Family moved to Naperville in 1944. She graduated from Naperville High School in 1949 North Central College and Michael Reese Hospital from the school of Medical Technology in 1953. While a young working girl, she converted to the faith of her baptism in Roman Catholicism. Her formation began with the Young Christian Workers. In 1959 she met and married Edward John Goerling and retired from Med Tech to be a full time homemaker. They had seven children, Michael (Rita), Catherine Blythe, Philip (Kari), Amy (Matthew) Williamson, Mary (James) Buckner, Thomas (Mary) and Jean (Mark) Johnson. She received additional formation through Christian Family Movement and La Leche League. As the children grew older, she became more active in church and the community. She was on the Woman's Club board at St. Edmund Church in Oak Park and also a member of the School Board. About 1977, the family moved to Elmhurst and she returned to work as a med tech at the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. In 1987 they moved to Naperville. As a retiree from med tech, she became an educator at the Naper Settlement and continued to work there for 14 years. She is survived by 26 grandchildren, her brother William (Susan) Blythe and sister, Carolyn Negley and her husband, Edward. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 7th from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home & Crematory, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 11:00 am at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth, Naperville. Interment, SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Info: 630.355.0266 or
