Elder, Robert I. Age 80, a resident of Naperville since 1968, passed away suddenly, Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born March 10, 1934 in DeWitt, Iowa. Bob graduated from DeWitt High School and attended Grinnell College until entering the Air Force in 1956. He was stationed at the Finley Air Force Base in North Dakota until his discharge in 1959. He then attended the University of Washington in Seattle where he studied nuclear safety. He worked at the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Facility in Ames, Iowa and earned his master's degree in nuclear engineering. He later worked at the Department of Energy Field office located at Argonne National Laboratory until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Naperville where he was an active volunteer. He is survived by his wife, Marlene F. (nee Armbrecht) Elder; children, Robert K. Elder, Jolene (Al) Belinsky, Jerry (Pearl) Wengert, Bill (Carol) Armbrecht, Mari (Eric) Gundersen and Lisa (Tom) Groth; twelve grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lou Jindra; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores (nee Wengert); his parents, Donald C. and Margaret L. (nee Irwin) Elder; and a sister, Helen Horstmann. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Rd., Naperville, preceded by a visitation at 10:00 a.m. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home and Crematory, 516 S.
