Novak, Dr. Robert F. Age 67, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1983, formerly of Brookfield and Woodridge, IL, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at his home. He was born March 12, 1946 in Chicago, IL. Beloved husband of Denise (nee Huizinga) Novak, whom he met at Loyola Medical Center where she worked as a nurse and whom he married January 18, 1975; loving father of Nicole (Chad) Robertson of Geneva, FL. and Danielle Novak of Oswego, IL; adored grandfather of Lukas and Shane; devoted son of Kathryn (nee Soucek) Novak of and the late Robert Novak; dear brother of Frank Novak and David (Cindy) Novak; loving brother-in-law of Cathleen (Jeff) Wenzel, James (Gail) Huizinga, DVM, Cheryl (the late Ricardo) Leiva, Ellen (Stan) Glowacki and the late Michael (Jill) Huizinga; fond uncle of many. Robert grew up in Cicero and Bellwood, IL and was a 1964 graduate of Proviso West High School in Hillside, IL. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with a degree in bio-engineering with high honors. Then graduated from Chicago Medical School in 1973 of which he was the recipient of the Finch Scholarship for most outstanding student in his class at CMS. Additionally, he received the Seaberry/Sofield traveling fellowship to England for the most outstanding resident. A Board Certified Orthopedic Physician & Surgeon, Robert worked throughout his career at Loyola Medical Center, Hines VA Medical Center, Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Loretto Hospital and practiced from 1978-2004 at Edward Hospital in Naperville with an office located on Martin Avenue.At the time of his death, Robert currently held the title of Assistant Clinical Professor at Loyola University Medical Center in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation and was also the Medical Director of the Orthopedic Clinic at Hines VA and an expert in Compensation and Pension and BVA Remands. He had also taken on a national consulting role and was the medical specialist for orthopedic and spine conditions by the BVA Law Judges.Robert was also responsible for teaching and supervising in the Orthopedic Clinics. Robert enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing, swimming and spending time with his two grandsons. He will be remembered for his gift of teaching.
