Martin, Joan Ellen Age 76 years, a Naperville resident for the past 54 years after moving to Naperville in 1960, passed away October 7, 2013, she was born September 1, 1937, in Oak Park, Illinois. She graduated in 1955 from J. Sterling Morton High School, Cicero Illinois and received degrees from North Central College, Naperville in 1959 (BS); Northwestern University, Evanston in 1962 (MA) and Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK in 1983 (EdD). Dr. Martin taught Physical Education and Driver Education full time at Naperville Central High School until her retirement in 1994 and part time until 2002. She was head of the Physical Education department at NCHS from 1967 to 1977; taught Driver Education certification classes for Chicago State University; and supervised student teachers for Aurora University. She was an active member and an officer with the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; the Midwest District AHPERD; and the American Alliance HPERD and the recipient of numerous awards and honors from those associations. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Naperville. She is survived by several cousins and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Jessie (Kotva) and several aunts and an uncle. Funeral services were private and interment took place at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Naperville Humane Society, 1620 W.
