Harry S. Edwards

Edwards, Harry S. A retired chemist and computer scientist, died on July 11 at Seasons Hospice in Naperville. Mr. Edwards' career focused on nuclear technology, including his employment at General Electric in the 1950s and 60s, where he worked on a project to develop a nuclear powered aircraft. He worked at Argonne National Laboratory from 1968 until his retirement in 1984. Harry is survived by his niece and nephew, Robin Flannery of Glasgow, Kentucky, and Mark Edwards of Louisville, Kentucky; Robin's husband Anthony and sons John and Ben; John's wife Sarah and son Thomas; and Mark's wife Judy and daughters Katie and Susan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Austin M. Edwards III and his nephew, John A. Edwards. Harry was born in Oakfield, New York. He received bachelors and masters degrees from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Northwestern University. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, the American Nuclear Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. A memorial visitation will be held at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home and Crematory, at 516 S. Washington Street in Naperville on Saturday, July 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
