Fred J. Stevens

Stevens, Fred J. Fred J. Stevens, age 63, of Naperville, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Edward Hospital. He was born June 10, 1949 in St. Paul, MN. Mr. Stevens earned his bachelor's degree in physics from Hamline University in St. Paul where he was a National Merit Scholar. He later earned his master's degree and Phd. in Biophysics from Northwestern University. He was appointed to a research position at Argonne National Laboratory where he rose to the rank of Senior Bio-Physicist. The importance of Dr. Stevens' contributions to this field is indicated by more than 100 publications, in peer-reviewed, scientific journals, that resulted from his work. He is the holder of numerous patents and will be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews. He is survived by two brothers, Joseph (Sandy) Stevens and Don (Colleen) Stevens; his in-laws, Kathleen (Terry) Madeda and Dr. Dennis McShane; his nieces and nephews, Carrie (Christopher) Stevens-Baumann, Jason (Lourdes) Stevens, Amanda Stevens, Joe Stevens, Jr., Kelly (Brian) Stevens-Pelz, Ryan Stevens and Amanda (Peter) Madeda-Borg and Michael Madeda. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Pegg" Stevens, and his parents, Frank J. and Veronica Stevens. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 25th, 2013, 11:00a.m. at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home and Crematory, 516 S. Washington St. Naperville.
