Lindquist, Walter Axel Born November 2, 1918 in Edina, MN. Passed at his home in Joliet, IL, May 28, 2010 at age 94. Beloved husband of Lois (nee Zoran) Lindquist; loving father of Keith Beaudry Sr.; special grandchildren, Keith Jr. (Lynn) Beaudry, Kent Allen (Betty) Beaudry; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Betty, Joshua Beaudry; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Elizabeth (nee Nelson) Lindquist; a brother, Leonard (Bernie), sister, Winifred (Fred) Andreson, Margaret (Rev. Albert) Soreson. Walter was a veteran of WWII, serving as a Marine with the 26th First Battalion Co. 5th Division Headquarters. He was one of the few remaining survivors of the 28 day battle of Iwo Jima. He was also in the original landing of Japan, when Japan surrendered. He was a Bronze Star recipient, Presidential Unit Citation, Pacific Asiatic Metal, as well as the Good Conduct Metal. After the war he worked for 31 years for the Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a Materials Analyst. He loved hunting and fishing and after retiring spent his summers at their home at Lac Des Mille Lac, Canada with his family. Former member of the Elks Club, life member of the 5th Marine Division Association, life member of the American Legion Post, Alumni of the Blind Association at Hines Hospital.
