Ballenger, Laureen (nee Krumpelman) Laureen died quickly and peacefully Thursday, at age 88. Born in Marceline, MO. At age 20, she moved to Joliet with her husband, Louis H. Ballenger. They had 7 children: Louis J. (Marsha McCraith), Barbara (Bill) Sluiter, Jean (Donald) Kocielko, Kenneh (Lynn) Flanagan), Joseph, John and Raymond. Her spouse died in 1970, leaving her to raise several children on her own. She is preceded in death by her spouse Louis, an infant child Joseph, her sisters, twin Eileen Whitehurse, Margaret Field and Cecelia Gandy; and one brother Bernard. Survived by her six loving children, three grandchildren: Donnie Kocielko, Max Sluiter and Makenzie Ballenger, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also many nephews, including George Gandy, who ran countless errands, and nieces, including May Lou Seeley, and also devoted family friend Charles Spiva. Active member of St. Mary Magdalene Parish since its inception. She resided at Sunny Hill Nursing Home for the past year. She remained strong and resolute in life despite severe health problems in her last years. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 10:00a.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Monday from 5:00 to 7:00p.m.
