
Russell, Harv Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, Thursday, September 13, 2012. Age 85. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years Julie (nee Fields) Russell; a son, Chip (Tere Lynn) Russell; five grandchildren, Callan, Cendalyn, Chaz, Chesney and Chapin; his sister, Phyllis Corzine and a cousin, Joan Baudry. Born July 31, 1927 to the late Albert and Bessie Russell. Graduate of Carl Schurz High School, Class of 1945 and the Moody Bible Institute in 1950. Veteran of the US Navy. In 1961 Harv became director of the Christian Youth Center where he took it from the storefront to current location. During his training at the MBI he accepted his first official position with the "Hi-Crusader Club" (Hi-C) of Joliet, where he continued his involvement serving at the central office in Chicago for 7 years. Harv reached out through his ministries to area youth and parents through media of print and radio. For 19 years a live school broadcast was aired on WJOL. In addition to his ministry to the area youth, he found time to serve as interim minister to six local churches, visiting patients at Silver Cross Hospital, and on the board of directors for the Joliet Christian School. Harv's coined philosophy of working with the youth, "An effective youth leader must be one, but only one, step ahead of the young people at all times." Lying in state at the Christian Youth Center, 1110 Manhattan Road, Joliet, on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 10:00 AM. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Memorials to the Harvey Russell Memorial Ministry Fund c/o Chase Bank will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Friday at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, from 3:00-8:00 PM.
