Bergstrom, Lavern H. "Vern" Age 88. Passed away peacefully, Friday, May 25, 2012 at Laurie Care Center in Laurie, Missouri. He was born in Joliet, May 22, 1924 to the late Carl and Ruth (Singleton) Bergstrom, where he was raised and educated, graduating from Joliet Township High School. A US Navy Veteran of WWII, Vern was a pilot on an aircraft carrier as well as serving in the Pacific Theatre. A retired construction manager and engineer in Joliet for many years with several area firms, he was the project superintendent of many commercial buildings, including First Assembly of God Church, Joliet Junior College, the Red Water Plant at Joliet Arsenal and an addition of Silver Cross Hospital. He was previously employed by Silver Cross as Director of Buildings and Grounds and NGPL as a Foreman. In 1978, Vern moved to Camdenton, MO. where he was a restaurant owner/operator until his retirement. His hobbies included golfing, bowling, fishing and horseshoes. Survived by his daughter, Kathleen "Sevasti" Bergstrom; son, Kenneth (Marcia) Bergstrom; grandchildren, Matthew (Angela) Bergstrom, David Bergstrom and Danelle Barnard; one great-granddaughter, Asha Barnard. Also survived by his step-children, Mark (Margaret) Maxwell and Miriam (Scott) McGee and several step-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys, second wife, Wilma "Billie" and his companion later in life, Dorothy Jones. As it was Vern's wish, cremation rites have been accorded. Committal services and inurnment with full military honors will take place Friday June 8, 2012, 1:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Please omit flowers.
