Albert, Edgar N. Was born on November 4, 1925 in Hidalgo, Illinois, to Elmer and Edna Albert. He died at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham on August 30, 2013 at the age of 87 years. The oldest of six children, Edgar grew up doing farm work with his father and others. At age 18 he entered the U.S. Army
and served in World War II
, in the European theatre from 1943-45. In 1947, he was married to Dorothy Marie Tiemann, and their union was blessed with four sons. After a brief attempt at farming, Edgar went to work as a corrections officer in the Joliet prison system, a post he held for 25 years. In 1982, he and Dorothy returned to the homestead in Hidalgo and Edgar was employed at Trailmobile for five years building trailers. Edgar was baptized and confirmed as a young adult at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Joliet. After returning to Hidalgo, he joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Casey, where he held membership until the time of his death. He had a lifelong love of baseball, even after his playing days were past. He enjoyed country-western music and had a keen interest in classic cars. He was a member of the Greenup VFW
and the American Legion. Edgar is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Daniel (Kathy) of New Lennox, Carl of Effingham, David (Trish) of Neoga, and William (Barbara) of Shumway; brothers, Kenneth of Hidalgo, Chester of Greenup, Fred of Green Creek, IL and Jim of Lapeer, MI; sister, Mildred Carter of Hidalgo; also 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
