Edlund, Charles E. 89, of South Elgin, went to be with the Lord August 10, 2013 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was born October 6, 1923 in Elgin the son of Swan and Anna Schmidgall Edlund. He had been a resident of the Elgin and South Elgin area all of his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1942. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator at Chicago Gravel Co., Elgin and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 150 before retiring. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a pilot. Surviving are his 3 daughters, Pam (Dennis) Backey of Elgin, Sandy Kossack of Gilbert, AZ., and Karry (Jerrie) Johnson of Elgin, 9 grandchildren, Jessica (Steve) Riola of Joliet, Jordan (Juliette) Backey of Carol Stream, Jared (Lindsey) Backey of Fayetteville, NC, Jeff (Melissa) Kossack of Gilbert, AZ., Ryan (Mollyann) Kossack of Palmyra, VA., Tim (Stephanie) Knight of Elgin, Steve Knight of Naperville, Adam Johnson and Ben Johnson, both of Elgin and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma Lewis Edlund, a daughter, Debbie Knight- Lessing, his son in law, Larry Kossack and 1 brother, William J. Edlund. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 15 at 11:00 A.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
