Virgil C. Thorson Virgil C. Thorson, age 87, of Elgin formerly of the Dundee and Marengo areas passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Virgil was born on September 26, 1922 in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Thor and Sofia Thorson. In 1941, Virgil married Ella Glade. She passed in 1985. In October of 2009, he married his long time friend Ann Ross. Virgil was a Dairy farmer in Wisconsin and the Dundee area for many years and worked for the Village of West Dundee from 1971 until he retired in 1985. He was always very proud of all of his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed the company of his many friends. He is survived by his wife Ann; his children, Bruce (Lori) of Sleepy Hollow, Patricia (Ralph) Cullison of Sheldon, Wisconsin, Virgil Jr. (Marlys) of Fort Wayne, IN Brian (Amy) of Tampa, FI Randal (Sue) of England, UK, Ronald (Margie) of Marengo and Richard (Yvonne) of Gilberts. His step-children, Judy (Pat) McAtee of Plato Center and Steve (Cindy) Ross of Elgin. Virgil was the proud Grandfather to 13: Paul (Donna), Brent (Jessica), Mike (Katie), Matt, Justin, Trish (Brett), Sara, Cortney, Rachel, Wade, Stephanie, Thor and Toby and proud Great-Grandfather of six, Ella, Jack, Charlie, Ethan, Everett and Bryton. Other survivors include his sister, Helen Getzelman-Schultz and his brother, Maurice Thorson. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ella Thorson and five siblings. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church 401 W. Main Street West Dundee. The Rev. Steve Woita, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held from 1-5 PM on Sunday, May 2, 2010 in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and again on Monday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
