Murk, Virgil 89, of Sun City Huntley passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Hospice of NE Illinois Facility in Woodstock. After returning from WWII, he met and married Anne in 1950. Together they raised three children at 899 Sioux Drive in Elgin. Virgil was born in Monmouth, IL to Martin and Hulda Murk and before going to India during WWII, worked on the family farm. When he returned, he received his B.S. Degree at Monmouth College then earned his Master's Degree in Social Work at Denver University. He got a job with the state of Wisconsin as a social worker. He earned a second degree in social work from Syracuse University in 1960 and the family settled in Elgin. He worked for U46 for nearly 30 years as a social worker and supervisor but his true passion was working with the children at Garfield Elementary School. Upon their mutual retirement from U46, he and Anne traveled the United States and the globe. They moved to Del Webb, Huntley in 2001. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his family and a circle of devoted friends. His family includes his beloved wife of 62 years Anne Elizabeth; his three loving children Barbara (Steve) Meyer of Rockford, David Murk of Huntley and Susan (Rick) Wetzel of Glendale Heights; his cherished grandchildren Ben Meyer, Shannon (Gregory) Hagel, Andrea Meyer, Mollie, Sophie, Izzie and Owen Murk and Christopher and Jamie Wetzel as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harold (Ethel) Murk and his sister Helen (Oscar) Larson. Visitation will be Monday, November 12, 2012 from 9:30 AM until the 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church 10307 Huntley/Dundee Rd., Huntley. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
