Patricia L. Meyers Obituary
Meyers, Patricia L. 83, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born October 1, 1929 in Percy, IL the daughter of William W. and Frieda Sutton Firth. She lived in Elgin most of her life and spent winters in North Ft. Myers, FL after retiring. She attended Lincoln Grade School and was a member of the Class of 1947 at Elgin High School. She worked at Sears in Elgin until 1951. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. She served in various organizations at the church and was an extraordinary minister and also a member of the church council. She also was a member of the Old St. Joseph League which later became the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She served on many committees including Style Show Chairman and as President of the Auxiliary from 1975 to 1976. She was also President of the Elgin Association Of Insurance Women and also was secretary and manager of her husband's insurance agency for over 40 years. She was a Girl Scout leader at St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and Joint President with her husband of the Parents Association at St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and St. Edward High School Parents Club. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of nearly 63 years, Hillard V. Meyers whom she married on September 16, 1950; her four cherished children, Pamela (Steve) Michel of Elgin, Paula (Charles) Feucht of Elgin, Portia (Rudy) Ollero of Marengo, Howard (Monica) Meyers of Marengo; 9 grandchildren, Katie, Stacy and Jeffrey Michel, Sara (Matt) Balgeman, Stephanie (Scott) Donovan, Megan (Eric) Truax, Nicholas Ollero, Bryce and Turner Meyers; 2 great-grandchildren, Madison and Hannah Balgeman; 3 sisters, Claudia Hobbs, Vera (John) Tierney, Linda (Peter) Davies, and a brother, William "Bud" Firth. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Richard Callahan. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 9 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Homes, Elgin and on Friday from 9:15 until the time of mass in the church.
