Hipple, George I. Of Phillips, WI died on February 24, 2013 at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with leukemia. He was under the care of the Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. George was born on June 17, 1926 in Elgin, IL. He was the son of George and Mary (Remus) Hipple. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1944, served in the Navy from 1944 through 1947 and graduated from Bradley University in 1951. He married Carol A. Hansen on June 29, 1952. He was employed as a manufacturer's rep in the heating and air conditioning trade until his retirement in 1991. He also pitched fast pitch softball for various teams in the Elgin area until the age of 50. George was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin until they moved to Phillips in 2009. He enjoyed refinishing distressed furniture, fishing, and going to the casino. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol; three children, Reggie (Mark) Distin of Phillips, Brian (Anne) Hipple of Lakeville, MN and Karen Thompson of Phillips; five grandchildren, Derek (Laura), Kimberly and Craig Distin, Dan and Mary Beth Hipple; three great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Lydia and Nicholas Distin and one brother, Jerry (Eleanor) of Carpenteria, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Mabel. A memorial service is pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials/gifts be sent to St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin, IL or to the Flambeau Home Health & Hospice in Phillips.
