Geister, Antoinette Sarto Antoinette Sarto Geister, 87 of Elgin passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Sherman Hospital. She was born December 7th, 1925 Antoinette Sarto and was the third daughter to Samuel and Lucy Lanza Sarto's seven children. Antoinette was a lifelong resident of Elgin, she had a gift for organizing successful benefits, from fashion shows to fancy galas and raised thousands of dollars for local hospitals, children's organizations and service clubs. As a devout catholic, she was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Elgin and was a volunteer and member of the Provena St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary for 50 years. As a member of the Auxiliary she served as chairperson for many fund raising events for the hospital over her many years of stewardship. As past president and volunteer for the Easter Seal Auxiliary she served as a fundraiser to help children with special needs. A longtime member of the Women of the Elks Auxiliary, Mrs. Geister chaired several style shows and Christmas Breakfasts. Antoinette was an active member of the Elgin Woman's Club for over 35 years. During this time she served as President as well as other executive positions. She chaired fundraisers to support Sherman Hospital and other Elgin service organizations. Antoinette was also a past member of Elgin Symphony League and on the board at Judson College. Antoinette worked for the Elgin Watch Factory for over 20 years. She also was part owner of Fox Valley Grease Service and a member of the American Business Women's Association. Antoinette was an amazing sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her loving family, including her special brother-in-law, Robert Hood; her daughter, Kathleen (Jon) Mink; her daughters-in-law, Cathy Hopkins and Connie Hopkins; her grandchildren, Michael (Teresa) Hopkins, Tim (Kim) Hopkins, Sandra (Chris) Tsonis, Glen (Missy) Hopkins, Beth (Robert) Vitek, Patricia (Bill) Burton, Allison (Eric) Pate, Kristen (Ben) Wagner, and her 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joseph, Ralph, Patrick and August Sarto; sisters, Mary Sarto and Margret Hood; sons, Michael and Melvin Hopkins; and her loving husband, Edward James Geister. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial park. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8:00 P.M. at the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., (Rt. 31), and on Monday at the church from 9:00 A.M. until mass.
