Alfred E. Schudel Obituary
Schudel, Alfred E. "Freddie" Age 86, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 21, 2014. He was born in Elgin on April, 10, 1928, son of Hans and Clara Schudel. Freddie worked on the family farm in Udina, excelled in 4H, and graduated from Udina High School before joining the Navy, where he worked on aircrafts and honed his softball skills. He met his wife, Suzanne in West Chicago while in the Navy, and they married on December 29, 1951. He was an avid Cub and Illini fan, and passionate about watching his kids and grandkids play sports. He worked hard, but took time to fish. He owned and operated Schudel Sheet Metal for 45 years and tried to satisfy 100% of his customers. He was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, of which his family were cofounders. Freddie was a good friend to many, generous with both his time and hard-earned money. Freddie was proud of his 5 children and grand and great-grandchildren and had returned just one week ago from Alaska where he and family were attending the wedding of his granddaughter. Freddie is survived by his wife, Suzanne; children, Sheryl Baechler, Linda Cohu, Steve Schudel, Cynthia Lange, and Heidi Jordan (and their spouses); 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren; his brother, John Schudel; and sister, Anne Christensen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Madeline Aldis. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church's location at 1111 Van St., Elgin. Interment with honors will follow at Udina Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to contribute to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Nesler Road general fund in his name. www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com or 847-741-8800.
