Roberts, Maynard Louis 80, of South Elgin, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013 in his home, surrounded by family. He was born on September 6, 1932 in Fargo, ND the son of Ruth (Jim Walker) Roberts. Maynard was a Veteran, and served in the US Air force during the Korean War. He received his BS, Master's Degree and Higher Learning Degree from Northern Illinois University, and also attended classes at the University of Illinois. Maynard had taught at Elgin Community College for 35+ years and was head of the CAD/CAM Department. He had a passion for his Model A Car Collection, and loved camping and spending time outside with his family and many friends. Maynard will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife: Mary Ann (Begalka) who he married on September 1, 1956. 4 children: Donald (Kathy) Roberts of Cave Creek, AZ; Rebecca (Dr. Barry) Davis of Boca Raton, FL; Victoria (Larry Vivoda) Roberts of St. Charles, IL; Robin (Dr. Bob Maganini) Roberts of South Elgin, IL. 11 grandchildren: Jeremy, Jordon, Miles, Carrie, Mike, Sam, Larry, Eileen, Tony, Maynard, Elena, along with many nieces, nephews and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: Patrick Walker. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Prairie Landing Golf Club in West Chicago from 4:30-8:00 P.M. with memories highlighted from 5:00-6:00 P.M. ending with a flag presentation. Memorials may be made to the Maynard L. Roberts Scholarship fund, for students in need, attending Elgin Community College. Laird Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
