Whitlock, Dr. Richard F. Of Centralia and formerly of Elgin, IL, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2013 at Centralia Manor in Centralia. He was born on September 14, 1919, in Granite City, IL to Rev. Omar and Hazel (Farmer) Whitlock. He married Ann Wolf in 1946 and she died in 1961. He married Jean Knights in 1962 and they were later divorced. On January 1, 1995, he married the former Virginia (Messex) Maulding and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Patricia (Trish) Ann of Chicago, Nora Louise of Evanston, and Sara Elizabeth of Colorado Springs, CO, and nephew, Philip Jones of New Jersey. His parents, sister, Lola Jones, and son, Richard F. Whitlock" preceded him in death. Dr. Whitlock graduated from the University of Illinois
and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for 45 years and delivered over 9000 babies. A World War II Army
veteran, he served as a battalion and regimental surgeon in Central Europe and commander of the 610 Separate Clearing Company, was awarded the Silver Star and three Bronze Stars
, and attained the rank of major. He was a member of the 102 Ozark Infantry Division. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Marco Island, FL, Medinah Shrine Club, Elgin BPOE #737, Scottish Rite Lodge - Chicago, and past president of both the Illinois OB/GYN Society and the OB/GYN Fitzgerald Travel Club. The funeral service will be Monday, May 20 at 11:00 am at Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia with Rev. Allan Mason officiating with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery; there will be no visitation. Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion post #446 & V.F.W. post #2055.
