Sedik, Dr. Donald T. If your plan is for one year plant rice For ten years plant trees For a hundred years educate men This Chinese proverb had been taped inside the desk door of Dr. Donald T. Sedik throughout his teaching career. Dr. Sedik, a retired professor from William Rainey Harper College in Palatine passed from this life into the next on the 29th of June 2013. After serving in the Navy for four years, Dr. Sedik returned to the University of Illinois
on the GI bill to earn his Bachelor's degree in business. He subsequently worked in Chicago at both Armour and Libby, McNeil and Libby in marketing, attending night school at DePaul University and earning a MBA. Continuing his education at Northern Illinois University, he earned his Doctorate in business education and began teaching at Harper College at its inception. Dr. Sedik touched the lives of many of his students because he was committed to them and their success. He is predeceased by Laurel, his wife of 55 years and is survived by his two daughters; Kathy Scott (Bill) and granddaughter Laurel and Karen Huber (Tom) and grandson John and granddaughter Katherine (Huber) Schmidt (Peter). He is also survived by his sister, Jean Cunat (Miles).
