Dichtl, Joseph John Joseph Dichtl, 84, formerly of Warrenville, IL, passed away in the arms of his loving wife in his home after a hard fought battle with multiple illnesses on October 13, 2013. Preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Dichtl and parents, Joseph and Erna Dichtl. Survived by his wife, Edith Dichtl; children, John Dichtl of Aurora, IL, William Gannon of Cary, IL, Mary Gannon of Shawnee, KS, Anne Gerard (James) of St. Louis, MO and Daniel Gannon (Jennifer) of Sacramento, CA and 9 adored grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dan (Mary) Tira; sister-in-law, Alberta Dichtl and nieces, Diana and Melissa Dichtl. Joe was raised in Naperville, IL and attended Naperville schools. He attended the University of Illinois and North Central College and received his Masters in Education from Northeastern Illinois University. He loved educating children and retired after 27 years of teaching high school biology at West Chicago High School. An avid sportsman and conservationist with a strong sense of adventure and humor, he loved spending his retirement years teaching his grandchildren to enjoy the outdoors, and getting the most out of life - instilling in them the importance of having a good character and a good sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in his name to Ducks Unlimited (One Waterfowl Way, Memphis, TN 38120) to continue his love of conservation, Sacred Heart Villa (2108 Macklind Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110) in gratitude of the Sisters of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to continue his love of educating children or St. Peters Catholic Church (PO Box 430657, Big Pine Key, FL 33043) where he attended mass during his many winters fishing in his beloved Florida Keys. A memorial service will be held in Warrenville, IL in the spring.
