Fred H. Bowen
Age 79, of Oswego, IL formerly of Winfield, IL passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010 at his home. He was born on November 26, 1930 in Maywood, IL the son of Fred H. and Cecelia (Peary) Bowen.
Fred was united in marriage on August 23, 1952 in Chicago, IL to the former Mary J. Serocki and they spent the next 58 happy years of their lives together. Fred served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN with a degree in Engineering. Fred was employed, for over 25 years, as the Chief Engineer of the DuPage County Highway Department.
Mr. Bowen was a devoted member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Yorkville, IL where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winfield, IL where he had been a founding member of its Knights of Columbus. While living in Winfield, he was a Trustee of the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Bowen of Oswego, IL; his eight children, Diane Bowen of Winfield, IL, Donna (Jay) Linowski of Bolingbrook, IL, Denise Bowen of Berrien Spring, MI, Linda (Patrick) Andrews of Oswego, IL, Michael J. Bowen of Huntingtown, MD, Susan M. Bowen of Yorkville, IL, Kevin P. (Lisa) Bowen of Plainfield, IL and Kathie M. (Eric) Hawkinson of Minooka, IL; his fourteen grandchildren; as well as one niece and one nephew.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Cecelia Bowen; his sister, Eilleen Farrell and his grandson, Christopher Linowski.
A Funeral Mass for Fred will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 28, 2010 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 Walnut St., in Yorkville, IL. Interment will follow in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Winfield, IL.
Friends may visit from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Parkway, in Yorkville, IL.
