Vivian Ione Gabel
Vivian Ione Gabel, age 89, of Yorkville, IL passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at her home. She was born on April 21, 1920 in Amboy, IL the daughter of Cornelius and Gertrude (Battin) Garland.
In 1938 Vivian graduated from High School in Amboy, IL. She then graduated nurse's training at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Aurora, IL. While working at Saint Joseph's she met Clyde Augustus Gabel and they were married on April 21, 1945. In 1948, Vivian, Clyde, and their children moved to the Gabel family farm on Ament road in Yorkville, IL where she worked on the farm and raised her family her remaining years. Vivian also provided home health care services for many patients in the surrounding area. Mrs. Gabel was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Yorkville, IL where she was involved in many church activities. She was also a member of the Yorkville Women's Club. Vivian was an avid vegetable and flower gardener.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and great aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Gregg Gabel of South Elgin, IL, Glenn Gabel of Sandwich, IL, Janis (Michael) Mann of Lutz, FL, Garry Gabel of Oswego, IL, and Jessica (Bob) Frieders of Yorkville, IL; her grandchildren, Mike, Marty and Jen, Tim and Julie, Sarah and Ryan, Christopher and Gina, Karrie and Marty, Jamie and Regina, Joshua and Christina, and Morgann; her many great grandchildren; her brothers, Richard (Leila) Garland, Robert (Sue) Garland, and Raymond (Doris) Garland; her sister, Rosamund (Frank) Buckley; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Gertrude Garland; her husband, Clyde Augustus Gabel in 1979; her sisters, Delores Chesley, Margaret Hochstatter, and Evelyn Ryan; and her brothers, Joseph Garland, Clifford Garland, and Virgil Garland.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 22, 2010 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 Walnut St., Yorkville, IL with Father Matthew Lamoureux, M.I.C. officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Yorkville, IL.
Friends may visit from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Pkwy., Yorkville, IL.
