Calvin Smith Obituary
Smith, Calvin E. Of Aurora, 89, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2014 at Silverado Memory Center in Naperville. He was born March 20, 1925 in Aurora, IL. He served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Kane and the U.S.S. Shield from the Aleutian Islands through the south Pacific for 33 months. After returning home he was employed for many years at D.R. Sperry and Co. in North Aurora as a wood patternmaker, and then worked for Swanson Cast Stone in Kaneville and Du Kane Precast in Aurora, specializing in architectural precast until his retirement in 1993. Calvin was a long-time member of St. Joseph Church in Aurora. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus #736 since 1943, and a long-time member of the Pattern, Mold & Model Makers Association. On June 21, 1947 he was united in marriage to Marjorie with whom he spent 65 wonderful years. He was an avid Cubs fan, gardener, fisherman and woods craftsman. He is survived by his son, William (Pamela) Smith of Elburn; and his daughter, Marjorie (David) Kluber of Aurora; five cherished grandchildren, Carolyn Kluber of Montgomery, Michael (Margaret) Smith of Yorkville, Julie (Matthew) Smith of Aurora, Michelle Smith Grzesik of Elburn and Steven Kluber of Aurora; and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, LeRoy (Barbara) Brouch of Sugar Grove; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Brouch of North Aurora and LaVergne (James) Windett of Aurora; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie in January 2013; and his parents, Frank and Esther Smith. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Interment will follow Mass at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday morning, July 17, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Mass hour of 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 722 High Street, Aurora, IL 60505.
