Marcel L. "Pete" Joy Obituary
Joy, Marcel L. "Pete" 82, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at his home. He was born January 8, 1932 in Aurora, Illinois to William and Beulah Joy. Pete married Rachel McCoy on April 13, 1957 in Aurora, IL. He attended West Aurora High School, where he was the captain of the 1949 football team that won 21 straight games and also won two Big 8 titles. After graduating in 1950, Pete joined the United States Navy in 1951 and served for four years. After the service, he played semi-pro football for the Aurora Clippers. In 1956 he joined the Aurora Police Department, where he attended several law enforcement institutes, including being a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 1974. Pete retired in 1986 after 30 years as a Lieutenant Shift Commander. He retired to Mammoth Spring, Arkansas in 1986, and for a short time worked as a sergeant for the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Survivors include his two sons, Pete Joy of Montgomery, IL and Tim (Janet) Joy of Aurora; his daughter, Jennifer Joy of Mammoth Spring; his grandchildren, Hannah (William) VanDuzor of North Aurora, Sean Joy of Montgomery, Daniel and Nicholas Joy of Aurora, and Steven, Cheyenne and Gabriel Joy of Mammoth Spring; and his brother, Dennis Joy of Stevens Point, WI. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rachel; his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren, Hailey and Samuel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014 from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY at 10:30 a.m. to St. Mark's Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Patricia Geiseman will officiate.
