James, Robert Francis 98, formerly of Aurora, died Friday, December 14, 2012 at Riverbend Independent and Assisted Living in Jeffersonville, IN. He was born August 13, 1914, the son of the late Arthur R. and Ellen A. (Logan) James, in the same house in which he lived for most of his life. Robert was a graduate of St. Mary's Grade School, class of 1929. He moved to San Diego, CA in 1937 where he worked during the war for Consolidated Aircraft as a trouble shooter for Sperry Automatic Pilot, before returning to Aurora where he was a realtor until his retirement. Robert was a former member and twice Past President of the Aurora Luncheon Optimist Club. On the State level, he was a Lt. Governor and Governor for the Optimists of Illinois during 1973-1974. He received life membership in Optimist International on his birthday in 1979. Robert was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. Chapter #705. He was also a member of the Aurora Redevelopment Commission and the Aurora Civic Center Authority. Survivors include his son, William F. (Leah) James; stepdaughter, Gail Allen; grandchildren, Carrie (Trent) Lostutter and David (Elizabeth) James and great-grandchildren, Julia Lostutter, Natalie Lostutter and Landon James. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorene James on March 31, 1996. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 9:30 A.M. until the funeral hour of 11:30 A.M. at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Boy Scouts of America or for perpetual masses to be said in his name.
