Graves, JoAnn (Childress) 57, of Aurora, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2012 at Presence Mercy Center. She was born February 27, 1955 in Aurora the daughter of the late Charles and Josephine Childress. JoAnn grew up within the Aurora community and graduated from East Aurora High School in 1973. Following her studies, she become became an employee for NICOR Gas Company. She retired after 38 years in April 2011. She was an avid reader, sports enthusiast, and gardener. JoAnn was devoted to her family, friends, and colleagues. She was a loving wife and cherished her children. She became the "Mother" of all young people that she met and adopted them as her own. She extended her love to the friends of her children. She continued to be a dedicated "room mother" to her daughter's students for over a decade. JoAnn was united in marriage to Dennis A. Graves on November 25, 1983. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Allen Graves. JoAnn is also survived by her children, Ericka (Barnett) Campbell, Andrea (Bill) Schultz, Derrick Graves, Alicia Graves, Chelsea Graves and Charles Graves. Also surviving are two siblings; Rick (Marilyn) Childress and Kimberly (Norman) Stoner; sisters-in-law, Peggy Childress, Eleanor Newhouse Graves, Deborah (Hurel) Graves-Manns, and Donna Graves; as well as five grandchildren; Alexandria, Mikaiyah, Nechya, MacKenzie, and Malachi. JoAnn is also survived by four aunts, Ramona (Jenaro) Cisneros, Annie (Ricardo) Reyna, Ann (Harrison) Horton and Marge Childress; one uncle, Harry Childress; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. In addition to her parents, Charles and Josephine Childress, JoAnn Graves was preceded in death by her sibling, Robin Childress; brothers-in-law, Bishop Michael Graves and Bobby Graves; sister-in-law, Carol (Graves)Drew and Mother-in-law Doris Graves Buck. Funeral services will take place at 5 P.M on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl. Aurora. Visitation will be from 3-5 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
