Renner, Elmer J. Elmer was a 1938 graduate of East Aurora High School, and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy he returned to Aurora, working at Stephens-Adamson for 41 years, retiring as Sr. Vice President. Elmer enjoyed and felt a responsibility to give back to his community becoming a Board of Director member of the Carrier Manufacturing Company, Conveyer Equipment Manufacturers Association, VNA, Junior Achievement, American Red Cross, Easter Seals, Aurora Chamber of Commerce, United Way and President of the Aurora Country Club. Following his tour of duty in World War II he authored "Sea of Sharks", published by the Naval Institute in 2004, which recounted the harrowing experience of being lost at sea for five days after his ship, the YMS 472, was capsized during a typhoon off the island of Okinawa on September 16th, 1945. Survivors include his four daughters, Pat (Jim) Wenckus of Peoria, AZ, Jane (Ben) Perez of Aurora, Sue Gouldsberry of Aurora, and Barbara (Steve) Burrows of Clayton, MO; six grandchildren, Jeff (Tracy) Wenckus of Portland, OR, Jacey (Matt) Andersen of Forest Park, IL, Jeff Johnson of Newport Beach, CA, John (Kathy) Perez of Lutz, FL, Ben (Kate) Perez of Baltimore, MD and Callie Burrows of Chicago, IL; as well as six great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Rennik, Rockie, Julianna, Stella and Sam. Elmer was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Johnston) in 2008; his brothers, Walter and Norman Renner and his sisters, Emily Dorion and Louise Szilage. He loved nothing more than a good cigar and a martini while sitting on the deck of his summer home overlooking a Lake Michigan sunset surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 3-7 P.M. at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove. Funeral services will be private with interment at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with Military honors.
